Default Easy spring question

On a spring there is a "flat end" and a "round end" of the spring. My dad has me seconding guessing my spring installation. The "flat end" is the "top" on the front and back right? He wasn't sure if that was true or if the flat end was on top in the front but on the bottom in the back.
