Default V6 vs. V8

I'm a 16 year old looking to buy his first car. I have about a 7-10k budget. I'm looking at a '05 v6 w/ about 50k miles. A family friend of mine said that it would be better to purchase an olderGt V8 because of its value it will retain when i go to sell the car. On the other hand, gas prices are rising and a V8 would kill me w/ my income. What would be the overall better choice to go with if i want the most out of my car, a newer V6 or an older V8?

B/c GT's are for losers that want people to think they are cool.

If insurance costs is an issue get the v6. The gas milage isn' that different between them. You'll be a lot happier with the performance of a new edge GT vs a v6

insurance is about the same and is suprisingly lot cheaper than a tacoma truck. the problem is if i get a gt, it would have to be a 99-04 model if i want to be able to afford it. I found a v6 05 for about the same tho and being 6'1" the new interior of the 05 is tempting. I'm worried about the resale value if i decide to sell it because the v6 exerts more wear on the engine.

What would be more practical to you?

We can argue about buying a gt or just a basic v6 all day haha. If you can get a newer car for slightly more money Id say go for the newer car, but on the other hand if your the 'show off' type and want to squak the tires at every stop light v6's could do it, but v8's do it better.
