Default Gas cap

Since I bought my car the gas cap has only allowed about a quarter turn before it stops and it doesn't click or anything. I'm not sure if that's just how ours work or not but I've been having my gas cap light come on and ses codes related to evap leaks. I bought a new gas cap to see if that changed anything but it does exactly the same as the other one. Any ideas?

Has the gas tank been replaced?

Look closely when you take the cap off to see if there are threads that go below the surface the cap sits flush on. If there are try pulling that neck out but dont force it, if thats not working, try carefully pushing the gas tank up on the side of the gas cap but dont force it.

The neck sticks out as far as it possibly can. The cap just won't turn.

Ok, if you have 2 stock parts (filler neck and gas cap both made by ford for mustangs) then there will be no problem at all. So you have something aftermarket whether its the filler neck or gas cap for the threads not to be lining up...

If your filler neck is the original go to a ford dealer and buy a gas cap, if your newgas cap ismade by ford for mustangsand your filler neck is the problem then you bought the wrong cap...

Its most likely the filler neck, buy every gas cap on the market and try them all until you find 1 that fits and return the others.

Did this help or are you still confused?
