Brake Squeal Issue / Question
I have an '07 GT/CS with just about 12k and the brakes are squealing at times when I hit the brakes (not hard, just slowing down for a light). Could it be time for pads? How long do you usually get out of the set of factory installed pads? If it is the pads any particular brand to use and also stay away from? I have done done anything to the brakes so they are all original.
As always thanks for the input.

How long they last depends on how you drive. They usually start making noise when they begin to get into the range of needing to be changed soon. I like wilwood brake stuff myself.
Depends on your driving. If you not a brake driver than you should beable to get around 25k miles. If you brake alot than you will get less. If you do alot of highway driving than you will get more miles. you just may have brake dust on them causeing them to squeek. Your car is fairly new and shoudbe under warrenty, so I would go to your dealer ship and have them check the brakes out.
Disc brake squeal is usually cased by the pad vibrating in the caliper. That's why it's most noticable with light braking, and goes away with heavy breaking.
Remove the outer pads. Clean back of the pad and the caliper mount well with wire brush and some brake cleaner. Apply some Permatex Disc Brake Anti-Squeal to the mounting points. It's like glue. Re-assemble. Apply the brakes very lightly to set the pads, then let it sit overnight. That usually takes care of it.
Most factory pads have a wear indicater. It's a sheet metal finger that justs out from the pad and points towards the rotor. When the pad wears down enough it contacts the rotor and makes a horrendous noise. But that noise gets worse with hard braking, not better. Evenetually, it makes noise even when not braking.
