RE: lighting engine in a 1987 5.0?!?! can it work
If it's an early lighting with a 351, it's been done a bunch of times. If it's a later one, it probably involves lots more work (and probably a lot of custom fabbing) to get it done. Another thing to keep in mind is that due to the height of the engine you will most likely have to either run with no hood or cut a hole in whatever hood you use. I've seen a Crown Vic with an '03 Lightning engine and they had to cut a hole in the middle of the hood. Because of the height and location a cowl hood probably won't work.

First of all, that is a sick Vic and was in the Mustangs and Fast Fords Magazine last month I think. Second, the 351 from an early/mid 90's Lightning is pretty doable. The Motor in that Vic is a 5.4 from a newer truck, and in my oppinion wouldn't be worth the time and aggrevation. You can very easily build a 400+ HP 351 in your garage and throw it in your fox, instead of screwing with all the computer swapping and trying to make that throttle body fit under your hood. But that's just my oppinion.

i loved project frightning. and i may be wrong but i belive in Pro5.0 King of the Street competition..maybe 2 years ago... there was a purple sn95 with a lightning motor in it. they had a hole cut in to. The intake i think is the problem, its huge but u can youtube 5.4L Mustang a few things come up u might wanna start by reading some of the frightning project articles. I know it can be done tho. Yes there is a lower mount option but u'd for sure neeed either a huge cowl hood or i'd honestly cut the hood thats menacing looking seeing that thing poke out of the hood lol
