Default Doing gear Install

I'm currently installing my own 4.10 gears and everything is apart and ready to be put back together. I need to know how to calculate the proper shim thickness and how to install the shims.

unless you have help doing this from someone who has successfully installed gears i wouldn't advise you to do it. i tried for many hours of knucke busting and still didn't get it completely right becuase mine still wines a little. you will need a press to get bearings on and off. you will need a dial guage to check for backlash and gear paint to check patterns, which is how i did it. if you don't get it right you'll ruin those gears in 10000 miles or so. i got mine for free so i said f**k it. take it somewhere with it already out of the vehicle and broken down, it shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred that way.

My buddy has installed gears a few times, and i have all the tools i need. He's pressing my bearings on with his shop's press. I just need to know how to calculate the correct pinion shim.
