Default warped rotors

Anybody else having this problem? My rotors warp so easy. I don't even do hard stops. It's noticable after about 5000 miles on new rotors and by 15 - 20K miles, they're potato chips. I'm thinking of getting cross-drilled rotors that I saw in Summit...any comments on these? thanks.

No I don't. I use it year round...weather permitting. My rotors never get rusty....they just warp from normal use. Someone mentioned that it is because they are too small for the car and overheat. It's a '94 GT and the rotors are stock size. Sounds reasonable...that's why I wanted to give the cross-drilled rotors a shot. They are supposed to stay about 200 degrees cooler so the chance of warpage would be reduced. I just don't know if there is a downside to driving them on the street.

brake pads have something to do with it as well, especially if you've got a cheap set. try something with a softer material - bendix semi-metallics are pretty easy on the rotors.

That's a good point. The last time I changed the rotors I installed Raybestos semi-metallics. The last set of pads I had were Performance Friction. They were really hard. In the rain on the highway after the brakes would get wet they would not stop for a while when the pedal was hit. It was scary.

Don't forget the most obvious..you never want to spray the rotors with water after you've been driving around. Let the brakes cool before you go through a car wash or spray the car down. Most people don't think about that when they hit a car wash or spray their car down before starting to wash it. Going through puddles will cause the same thing to happen as well.
Hot brake rotor + water = warped rotor
