Can't tell unless you take diff cover off, there bud.

http://www.miracerros.com/mustang/axle.htm this link says theres differences between covers of the open differentials of v6's and the 8.8's

or could you put an open in an 8.8 anyway?

tried again and failed =( this sucks ... i think my back left tire isnt burning out... just my back right one possibly
Then there is a good chance you don't have a locking differential. Posi, Limited Slip, Ford Trac Loc, They are all pretty much the same unless it has been repaired or replaced. It means that both tires spin instead of one if you have a "posi" rear.

If you have a GT, you have a TrakLok. Most likely yours is worn out and needs new clutches.
The 8.8 TrakLok is weak even when freshly rebuilt.

Why right and not left. Torque of the driveshaft tends to pick up the right wheel and plant the left. So even a weak clutch set up will easily spin both tires during a left turn. Even the some open rears can do this. A right turn requires a very tight set up because you need ALOT OF STRENGTH in the locking mechanism to overcome both the weight transfer of the vehicle during the right turn and the added traction you gain from the axle torquing the left wheel into the ground.

Posi and Limited slip are the same thing. Open differential is one-wheel power.

A 99-08 GT has posi/limited so both wheels should spin unless he's burned the clutches out in the unit.

Thats what it is... thanks for clearing that up, i know i didn't keep it thatway long though. Hated it...

Thanks, this seems correct. Do you have any idea how much it would be to get it repaired? I might just leave it if its expensive, ill just ... not do donuts turning right... lol

Would this affect straight line performance? it dosnt seem like it to me... i think when im going straight both wheels spin. I will find out and report back

yea , tried doing a few more burnouts to verify that both arent spinning and layed down 1 strip of rubber each time, i think it was the right tire one time, left tire another time. odd

And sometimes both tires gotta be spinning because the back end slides out at times... i dont get it. freakin weak differentials wtf ...

this is pretty normal actually, i think it has to do with how the unit is built. My car has done it on occasion, only when turning tightly though. If sliding the *** out is that important get them spinning before the weight of the car leans from the turn.
