Default 94 Speedometer not working

Hi everyone, I am new here. I'm having trouble with my husbands' 1994 Mustang GT, and I'm looking for some advice. He'd be taking care of this, but he's in Iraq. The speedometer has had some problems for a couple years now. You used to be able to tap on it and it would start working. One daythe needleflipped all the way past 150 and is now stuck on the wrong side of the peg. I plan on taking it to a shop, but I don't want to get taken advantage of. I was hoping someone out there might know what is wrong with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, that way I can research before I go to a shop. Thanks Everyone- Jen

Sounds like a legit excuse to get out of a ticket to me.

Same thing happened to my old '96 GT. Replace the cluster. You can find them on EBay or Craigslist for around $50 - $75.

If you could tap on it and it would come back to life it Definitly is NOT the Sensor So if they tell you that.......ask them to check the cluster like 96GT suggests.
