Default Transmission roll pin

I'm not sure if this is the correct section, but it is a general tech question. On my AOD transmission (in a 66 coupe, if that matters), I put the shift selector shaft (the part that shifts the transmission, not sure what else to call it) through the transmission case and put in the roll pin that keeps the shaft from sliding around. I tapped it too hard and it went in too far. This happened months ago, and I suspected it would cause me a headache at a future date, and now that date is here. I need to remove the drift pin and the shift selector. The pin is pretty much flush with the transmission body. I tried to grind some metal away from pin to get a grip on it to pull it out, to no avail. Is it possible to drill out drill pins, or do any of you have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Gary in GA

Maybe thread a small screw inside and clamp a vice grip on screw and tap out?

That's what I came up with as I was pondering about it last night. I'll try that today.
