Default Fox body Mustangs

Looking for a fox body car - what do you guys and gals prefer?
Pros and cons to fuel injection vs carb?
What years are better for building and just beating around town?

I like the 85, 86 foxes (four eyes). The body lines are really clean. Stay away from the 85 Mustangs with Auto's, they have TB injection and are slow. The 85 5-speeds have 4-bbl's on them, and have alot of potential. The 86 was the first year of the fuelies. If you want to mod, the 86-88? will have to be converted to maf. The 86-88 cars were great cars but they don't respond as well to mods, plus the 86 has crappy heads on it.

So to get to the point:
If you want to mod your car = 1982-85, 89-93
Just to drive it and get great milage = all years of foxes

awright, thanks for your point of view.

Are the four cylinder foxes real bad? Wondering if one of those would be a good commuter. They only came with four speeds in 85?

dont buy a 4 banger period everytime i see one i shake my head in disgust that ford would have even discraced the mustang badge by putting those motors in one!5.0 arent the best on mileage but they are easy to mod fun to drive and can easily put hondas and the like in thier place.look for a 90-93 i just think these were the best years of the fox body and they are reasonable in price.And buy a five speed.I have auto and its great 5 spd would just be better.

If you get an 85, you'll want to take off the SINGLE hump cross member under the tranny for a DOUBLE hump to allow true dual exhaust. They did a cheasy Y into one pipe to get past the cross member, then Y'd back out to two mufflers back then. I think it wasn't until 1987 that they used the double with true duals. Or if you're lucky like I was way back when, the previous owner would have already done this.

My vote goes for a 89-93 fox coupe. If you can't get one of those, the 85 GTs are awesome.

the "4-eyes" Fox's are sweet looking. tuning wise, carb's are probably easier to tune.....but, i like my fuel injection and plus, if you do get a mass-air car, rather than carb'd or speed density, get an '89-'92. '93's lost 20hp(down to 205hp from 225hp), AND they went to hypereutectic pistons, which is NOT good if you plan on racing it. '92 was the last year they used forged pistons. good luck

No, 93's didnt "lose" power
They just used a different way to measure the power.
Useing accessories and such.

My 86 GT gets 27 MPG on long trips. It suffers with a 12-14 MPG around town tho.
