Default Newb valve body Q's

Ok im looking to get a manual vavle body for my 94 stang AODE. I know im probibly right but i want to make sure. I know if i just leave the shifter in drive it will drive like a normal auto. but will it still have the firm shifts like w/ a shift kit? or do i need to buy a shift kit for it? What else should i replace while im in there? I would also like to do around a 2800-3000 stall. Last question i know i will be able to control 1-2 shifts but will i be able to control the 2-3? How does the car get into overdrive? I was also looking at the b&m hammer to go with it all.

Default RE: Newb valve body Q's

The whole point of a manual valve body is to manually shift through the gears. Not to put the car in drive and go. Who told you your car will shift normal through all the gears if you put it in drive with a manual valve body installed? Not sure about you're 94, but the overdrive on my 89 AOD is controlled by a switch. There are 2 wires that come off the valve body and I wired them to a switch in the center console. But if you do decide to go to a manual valve body, I would rebuild/overhaul tranny depending on age/ wear, and definitely a good torque converter, not a cheap one. I threw in a trans brake on mine. It's worth it if you got the cash. If you do decide to go manual valve body, I guarantee you'll have a blast driving the thing around town. It's like driving a stick in the sense that you have to shift up and down, but you don't lose any power through the clutch. Just bang the next gear while slamming the gas.
