Default new owner :)

Hi. My name is Lauren. I just got my 2001 Mustang Convertible GT and I'm absolutely in love. I am having a couple of issues though.

1. The seatbelt indicator. This is a new issue. For some reason, the seatbelt indicator is going off even when I am wearing a seatbelt. Ugh. It's the most obnoxious thing ever. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

2. I wanted to get a different exhaust system. Any suggestions? I would hope to improve my gas mileage, even if it is a slight difference and also the really awesome sound to a good exhaust system would bea pleasant perk.

3. I've never owned a convertible before. Is there something I should be doing to keep the roof intact? Like a vinyl treatment or something? And what about the leather seats? Should I be putting anything on them to keep the leather nice?

Thanks for your help.
Glad to be a part of the Mustang community

Hi laurenbrooke...can't help you with the seatbelt question but I'll take a stab at the other 2. There are some really good exhaust systems but it all depends on what sound you are looking for. You'll find as many recommendations as there on what best as there are colors of cars. It's really what sounds good to you. Corsa, SLB, Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Borra are just a few. Second, I use RaggTop on my vert and have great results as far as preservation and cleaning. There are other products that you can find at most auto parts stores. Recommend you use something in any case. As for leather...again...lots of good products out there. I use Macquires and it seems to do a good job.

I've had a couple of convertibles. To make them last, keep it covered or in a garage as much as possible. I use amorall to clean it and treat it.

Don't drop the top if it's wet, like after a rain or carwash. That can case mildew to start forming. Wait for it to be totally dry.

And don't lower/raise the top twenty times a day, that'll cause it to wear out faster too.

When you put a seatbelt on it brushes a metal contact, that contact breaks the circuit and kills the light/dinging. Reach under your seat and unplug it, you should not have the problem again.
