Help!! New to the AOD
Just bought a clean, 40,000 mile 1 owner gt, car is an AOD, had 3 bracket cars, all were tremec or g-force, this car is totally stock, right down to the airbox and mufflers, and stock headers are sad, had never seen a pair, anyways... car shifts into second at 4750 rpms, i was gonna do a H/C/I with some gear, but at that rpm, it would probally be just as slow... Is this normal, and how can i get the shift points to 6-6500 rpms? Thanks for your help in advance
you must shift the tranny manualy.the aod is a four speed but will only show you three speeds on the shifter.to make it shift higher in the rpm ranage you must puul the stick down to "1'. when you reach the desred rpm, push it into "D"wait one second then pull the shifter back into "1". that will hold second gear.when you reach your next shift point push the shifter into "D".it will take a little getting used to but you know what they say "practice makes perfect".
i hope this will help you

Shifting to 6500 is asking for trouble IMO. You are not very far from redline and constant redlining is very bad for the engine, but im sure you already know that. If you dont think an h/c/i and a gear swap will be enough, i suggest getting a 351 or larger.
My 93 has an AOD and 3.73. Its a good gear for the AOD. I wouldnt go higher than a 4.10. I had a 4.30 years ago and anything over 90 was hell on the motor.
I never cared for the 1-D-1 philosophy as AOD in stock form are pretty much garbage. Weak. Do yourself a favor and get a race ready trans that suits your needs. And dont forget a good trans cooler.
