There is one bit of information in that video that is still misleading. The DOT number is stamped on both sides however, the last four which consist of the date code are only on one side. Now I can not speak for every single tire and every manufacuter obviously, I just know what we recieve at my job and they are brand new tires coming in like that. We try and insure that the date code gets put out but every once in a while the customer will want a certain apperance side out (either the smooth or textured side) and that affects it. With that being said, if you go and look at your tires and dont see the date code in the DOT check the back side, even if they are "new".
Wow. Had no idea. Time to go check mine. I used to own a car with a set of like 18 year old tires. i went 130+ in that car...scary

I personally would not be offended by buying "old" new tires as long as I was aware and they were priced accordingly.
Old tires have their place. Great for a city car, an old beater or say maybe a Taxi cab that stays in the city.
Our family car is a 94 LHS. After the original tires wore out. The next set was 4 spares which are full sized, in those cars. My spare and 3 others from the wreckers. They were great tires that lasted from 2000 to 2007. Driven on the highway, winter, summer etc. They were old, mostly likely dated before 1994. No problems.
