superchargers take hp to run. turbos do not.

 

Turbos actually take power to run as well, in the form of exhaust restriction, but it's far, FAR less than what a comprable supercharger setup takes. And at higher boost levels with bigger blowers the difference becomes even greater. The extreme example is a Top Fuel car, that uses something on the order of 700-800hp just to run the blower.
