Default Not sure what the problem is....

So i had been running my 88 mustang lx with the 2.3L in it, its an automatic and it just took a crap a few months ago so i parked it and finally began lookin at it, im curious about if its the tourque converter gone bad, beeing that the car constantly shutters, barely goes into gear and when i finally do put it in gear it stalls out. my dad said it also looks like it could be the computer? he said the plugs looked like it was running lean along with a few other mechanics....im thinking of taking it to a garage to let them check the computer and go over it to find what the problem is...i wanna fix the car for gas mileage my 5.0 is killing me driiving it everyday. that and i ran that 88 ever since i got my license it never let me down all 3 years i ran it

Well, O2's do go bad but, I'd start by checking the fuel pressure.
