Default Octane Boosters

Since higher than 91 Octane fuel can not be found in So. Calif, what do you folks think of the Octane Boosters. There are several brands that tout higher octane ratings and better mileage. Have any of you had any experience with any of these products?
Best/ Bill

I threw some in my truck because I got free trials of the Lucas fuel stabilizer(not octane booster), STP, Shell, and whatever that other one is (106+ or something), and the only one that I noticed was the Lucas, it didnt give me more power, just made it idle a little smoother

From what I have seen most of the octane boosters don't really do much. If anything they only add a couple tenths of an octane point to the fuel.

i was using it in mine and after a while i developed a low speed engine miss. i pulled the plugs and found they were covered with a red dust...... put in new plugs and the miss went away. i read somewhere that octane boosters are useless in low compression motors.

A common missconseption about boosting octane is that it creates a hotter or more explosive burn. In fact boosting octane does exactly the opposite. a boost in octane is only required in high compression engines to keep them from detonation. This occurs when fuel is compressed to a point that itignites due to compression alone before the spark is introduced. higher octane fuels will only ignite when spark is introduced.

Also if you want higher octane, run methanol.

octane boost stops engine knock, nothing more. only reason you need it if there is something wrong with your tune, or worn spark plugs. it's a band-aid, but doesn't fix anything or add power or anything like that.
