I'm not sure if anyone else would say its a good idea, but I took mine and chopped off a bunch, til the antenna was about 10 inches high, and even glued the "ball" that was on top, back on the new shorty, and bam, same stations, no problems, and it looks good! I even had a "highway test" with speeds upwards of 80 or so and the ball never came off, and at no point did stations fade or distort. Just putting it out there! Cheap way to get rid of the yard stick!!

I went from the stock antenna to a 14" and my reception is unaffected.

I just cut mine with a hack saw even with the top of the roof. Didn't change reception at all.

Yea, same thing, just hack sawed it, glued the ball thats on the end back on, and absolutely no difference in station quality. I'm sure at a certain point you could cut too much off, but since there are antennas sold at 14 and 10 inches, I bet its fine. Now if you try to cut it at like 3 or 4 inches, then yea, I bet thered be a problem!

Mine's about 14" and yes the reception suffers. Strong stations still come in clear. Just like your satellite dish. 100% signal or 90% signal. Still perfect reception. Where a 90% signal suffers is in cloudy conditions.

Just like a short antenae. It will only be the weak, far away stations that will be noticeable.
