OBD 1 Codes - Can I pull them myself ?

Default OBD 1 Codes - Can I pull them myself ?

Just purchased an 1994 mustang with the 3.8L v6 and 5 spd manual, The check engine light is on and id like to get this looked into before i do the emissions test incase its emissions related, I was wondering is there anyway I cna count the flashes in the dash then look at the chart to see what the code means

does anyone know how to do this without a puller?

i know back in my honda days you could pull the carpet and count the blinks like you said. not sure on mustangs....pull your carpet back on your passenger side and see if theirs a light blinking on your ecu. if not then get a tuner or you could borrow a buddies if you know someone.

You can read codes yourself using a multimeter with OBD-I but that doesn't matter in this case because the 3.8 used OBD-II even though the 5.0 that year was still OBD-I.

5.0s = OBDI
3.8s = OBDII

thats weird... but you can go to almost any parts store, and they should read your codes for free.. i got my OBD I codes read at autozone

GREAT NEWS!!! found out that my 94 is actually OBD II so i was able to use my MAC TOOLS puller.. code was P1407 i cleared it it came back on I looked up code online turns out its an EGR NO FLOW..... well pop the hood and located the EGR valve you know that sensor thats bolted at the right back corner of the upper intake its got 2 hoses comeing off it that goes to the egr tube is this the egr flow sensor??? well the front hose was pulled off the sensors and laying there I pluged it back in and i cleared the code and 2 days and almost 200 kilometers driven she hasnt come back on.... and OH YA she passed the ontarios emission testing progam with flying colors... now its time to have some fun with this girl..... supercharger and stuff LOL
