Ok so I am doing a rotor swap on the front and rear of my 2001 mustang. I managed to get the caliper off without having to compress the piston, took the brake pads off, and the caliper bridge off(two bolts were a b^@%$ to get off by the way) but I ran into a bigger problem as I cannot seem to get the stock rotor off. My car is 7 years old and i see alot of rust and it is seize on my hub I think. I have tried banging it with a hammer and all , even used wd-40 with no luck. Is it just a slip off rotor? Am I missing a bolt that is holding it down in the middle or something?? Any help will be greatly appreciated
Does it still have the "lock-clips" on the studs? If so, remove them with a pair of dikes and toss em.
+1
look for these little metal rings that go around the wheel studs. i would guess that yours are still on there. after they are removed they dont have to be replaced.
idk if you have air tools, but theres a pneumatic impact gun attachment thats like a "Y" shape, and its a wedge as well. I had to use one on all four corners on my truck. I busts the rust right off
I had the same issue replacing rotors on my 2000 Expedition. I kept spraying with liquid wrench and took a tourch and went around the rotor where it makes contact with the hub. Took a few heating cycles and a few raps with the hammer and they came off.
i run into this problem all the time. a big pry bar will come in handy. also watch hitting on the rotor. try to hit in a cross pattern. if its too bad the rotor might have to be repalced
Pry bar huh? OK I might try that idea. I really dont care if I have to damage the rotor because I have cross drilled slotted rotors that are goin in its place
OK guys I really appreciate all the help and sugguestions. However, I am one step away from taking my car somewhere so they can try to remove the fused rotors. I dont want to say I want to give up , but it is that bad lol. Do you guys think a 3 jaw puller will work? I dont want to stress on the wheel hub too much.
