Default Drove without air filter!

I feel like jumping off a bridge. I took off my K&N air filter to clean it this morning. A little while ago, having forgotten, I took her out for a nice 40 mile drive up and down the highway. (It ran great.) But when I pulled in to my parking lot and put her in idle, I noticed she was misfiring. Did I just destroy my Mustang??? I feel terrible!!! I will never forgive myself!!!

My setup, if it matters: 2002 GT Convertible, K&N intake, Magnaflow exhaust, SCT dyno tune

I dont know much about an 02 'stang, but my 93 without the filter sounded rough enough that it could be mistaken for a misfire. I put the filter back on and it idled nice and smooth.

Any codes pop up? Put the filter back on and see if it helps.

Any extra dark smoke coming out if the tailpipe? Was it a dusty road you drove on? You might have gotten lucky & avoided damage.

Default No smoke

Road was a four lane interstate. Not a dirt road or anything. It was late evening and I was averaging maybe 75mph. Light to moderate traffic. I don't see any dark smoke from the tailpipe. Idles smooth now that the air filter is back on. It's hard now not to hear and feel all kinds of things due to paranoia. But at this point, with 100 miles of driving with the filter back on, I don't hear or feel anything harsh or obvious.

40 miles should not hurt it. I had a 93 F-150 with the twin 56mm t-body. It sounded good without the filter or hoses, I left them off for about 10K miles. Then I put them back and drove it another 60K before trading it with 200K, still ran great

its completely fine. The interstate wouldnt have done anything. If you lived here in so cal like me....thatd be a different story.

but since you called it an interstate im sure your from up north more where the air is slightly a bit cleaner.
