Default rebuild alternator?

well, my alternator looks like crap. i want it too look good, like the rest of the engine, but dont want to throw out the dough for a new one. so i was thinkin i would take it apart, clean it, and paint it. then i figured i would rebuild it while it was aprt. easy??? pain in the ***???? anyone done it????

if it works hy rebuild it? just clean it up and polish it a bit. i polished several pieces under my hood. i used fine grit sandpaper and scotchbrite pads. also some metal polish and voila! makes a big difference.

I've done it in the old days when I didn't want to spend a lot of cash and any of the rebuilt's off the shelf were junk. It's pretty easy. The rebuild kits used to be readily available....I don't know now since the off the shelf stuff is 1000 times better than it used to be.
