about the only truly functional scoop is the shaker scoop from the mach 1's. im sure you could cut a hole under your current scoop, but it wouldnt be much benefit.

I have one of those! It's not a Mach kit, but it is functional.

The honeycomb was cut out, and there is a seal covering the back of the scoop hooked up to the throttle. As the throttle increases, the seal is opened up, and air is allowed through the scoop. There is some custom ductwork that channels the air down into a K&N box, which is sealed with a rubber gasket.

As the scoop's seal opens, the standard intake is sealed off. That way, the air can't flow backwards out of the intake system.

The scoop opens at about 3,000 RPMs, and makes a nice whistle sound as the engine spins faster. It probably offers no performance benefit, but it looks cool and sounds nice.

i was just wondering me and a couple friends took my scoop off and cut the hood and put the scoop back on, we figured nothing the less it will atleast keep the motor a lil cooler.

I don't know if this matters, but mine has a reservoir and tube to discharge water out of the scoop if it rains. Instead of falling directly on the intake, it is channeled out between the engine and the radiator.

In the rain, you'll most likely be getting a bunch of water funneled directly onto hot engine parts (upper intake, TB, plenum, etc). It may be nothing, but I figured it would be worth mentioning.

Not to metion just cutting a 'ram air' hole will vastly disrupt the air flow around the engine bay and under the car. Our motors are liquid cooled, you want more cooling, get a bigger radiator. Don't mess with airflow unless you really understand it.

Why is it so bad to hack the bumper? People put heat extractor hoods on all the time

Bumper? I thought we were talking hoods? Heat extraction and ram air have NOTHING to do with each other when it comes to how they impact airflow. Even a heat extraction hood when used wrong will not do a dang thing for your car.

Yeah, weren't we just talking about the hood scoop? Or did I miss something vital here?
