Default Racing with auto ?

Ok just trying to get this right i dont want to damage the tranny at all or anything, this is my first car with overdrive.
So as i understand when i race from a light or anything i should have my overdrive off correct?
If im cruising on the highway and someone pulls up and wants to give it a go should i take the OD off and go or leave it on?
When racing from a stop with the OD off is there a certain speed i should put it back on?

Thanks in advance.

Overdrive is only for 4th gear......unless it changes the shifting programming for the rest of the gears (which I doubt)....there would be no real point in it, as most races don't get to 4th gear for automatics.

the od band in an aod is weak. so whenever you go to pass someone or want to accelerate don't floor or give it a lot of gas in od. shift to d and than go. the aod won't shift into od under full throttle, but turn it off anyway so that in case it shifts you don't fry it.

well overdrive is always on when in D the button is on the shift lever to engage od, so i would just leave it off when racing or trying to over take someone on the highway? Is there a way to strengthen the band for the od?
