Does your cell phone work? Chances are, it won't since its power source is connected to your car's battery via invisible wave-like power cords, but if it does, use it to see how the weather forecast will be for tomorrow.

I suppose he could use an air chisel to cut out the left rear corner of his hood and change the battery through the hole (JK!). Or, pop out the front grill and open the hood to change out the battery. Either way, then he can use his fob to open the door.

A couple of years ago we were in a restaurant, it was raining, and a guy came through looking for anyone with a GM key fob - he always left his keys in the console and only carried the fob - the battery on his fob died.
