Question Why do I shift slow ?

I have a 03 Mustand GT with a 4R70W auto trans and I've found that when I manually shift the car, I get an increase in line pressure and increases the firmness of the shifts. One problem, when I shift manually I get a two second delay from the time I move the lever and when the trans shifts. Any thoughts? Or and remedies?

Why are you manually shifting an auto?

You do realise that automatics shift faster then manuals right...?

So what? Autos rob more engine power in their operation.

Real manual > auto shifted manually

i would have to say that with your setup, there is no advantage to shifting by hand. the car should be setup to shift at the optimum points in the rpm band, so put it in D and let it do its thing..unless you have a manual valve body..which im guessing that you do not...

I'm guessing everyone missed the part where I said that when I shift manually it increases line pressure and I get firmer shifts. But obviously no one knows why I get such a delay after I move the level and till the time it shifts.

Only way you are going to get around that is with a reprogrammed PCM.

Thanks US Marine you've seemed to be the only one that was able to help. Something like an SCT programmer? Something like that?

No problem. I have an SCT tuner/tune in my Mark VIII. It does eliminate the time difference between moving the shifter and the time the car shifts. While manually shifting does alter line pressure, somewhat, it doesn't do it the same way re-programming does. Besides, I love leaving my Mark in drive and getting firm shifts, every shift. 1-2 shifts at WOT breaks the tires loose every time. The parasitic result is that the trans will actually last longer, because there is less wear on the soft parts in the trans.

It's an automatic...therefore it does it AUTOmatically...

You wanna shift gears? Get a stick. You could be doing more damage than you think to your tranny.
