Default unknown noise from drivetrain.. annoying!!!

well, how do i start? it seems like today the noise got worse. id hear it from time to time but i wouldnt make anything out of it because it would usually go away.. the noise is some kind of whine that would occur when accelerating from a stop on a flat surface or when im on a little hill and im slipping it a little just to get up. it would whine and if i just keep on letting it slip it would sould like something was going to break. imagine the sound of a electric drill that was trying to be stopped. it kind of sounded like that. i live in SF so i encountered a lot of hills today. it tried not to slip the clutch when i was on the hills but it was really hard. please! does anyone know what the hell this can be? i honestly dont know where the noise is coming from in the drivetrain. everything is stock in my drivetrain with the exception of a stage 3 spec clutch. i have RP synchromax in the trans and RP gear oil in the dif with a bottle of fords friction modifier. please help me anyone. i would appreciate it SO much! thanks..

i would guess a u joint. i had a similar problem. jack the butt up and checkem. cheap fix if it is the problem. it made a wine noise only on aceleration. it was the back one closesest to the rearend. all the bearings were gone!

id go ahead and replace both of the u joints since you have it out. im pretty sure thats what it is. it was like putting on new shocks. it rode so much smoother after.

i was going to replace the u joints when i replaced my spings and my shocks but then i didnt because they were still fine. no binding or anything, so i dont think thats it.. it makes a sound when im accelerating then i get a whine then a clunk.

Default spider gears

If it feels like its slippin it sounds like the spider gears in your rear. Had the same problem in my F150, it gets worse and worse, slowly but surly, then you have no movement at all one day.

what were the symptoms before it went out? anything heard or felt? and when you say slipping would it be all the time or only sometimes? because i only hear the sound sometimes and if it doesnt make any noise now, i know it would come later.

it starts out feeling like a slippin clutch then gets worse and starts making noise. If you really get on it good it'll make a clunk here and there, then starts doing it more and more. Eventualy it starts slipping more untill it's completly gone.
