Default New clutch time.....can I get some $.02?

Guys here that I have talked to say the loud whining comin from under the ****er stick is a TOB. Shop thinks it's a transmission issue. It is rather loud (drowns out engine noise), occurs when clutch pedal is out in all greas except 4th and goes away to almost inaudible when clutch pedal is pressed in (can't here it unless your ear in right next to the shifter ****)

Its a 98 Cobra street driver with no mods. I do plan to get exhaust in the next year and will probably get a tune. Definately looking to increase the HP but not with forced or atricifical aspiration.

Also, might it be worth the $$ to have the trans rebuilt while they are under there? It's a 10 year old car and I bought it with some shifting issues such as grinding into reverse, the whine and gereral hard shifting (mostly in 1st and reverse, which sounds like a clutch adjustment). Don't know how long a trans will last (I drive like a normal person) under normal circumstances or under the neglectful condition in which I bought the car.

Would love to hear some $.02 on clutches and trans rebuilds.

Oh BTW, new flywheel (will not get an Al lightweight) or resurfaced?

one way to tell if its Throw out bearing is to just barely push the clutch pedal...not really applying pressure as to shift..but just resting your foot on it...if it goes away thats your problem.

i got the same problem and was wandering if anyone changed out one themselves. i know it is time consuming but is it a driveway job or do you really need special tools? the tob itself is really cheap, its just the labor for a shop to pull the tranny that costs you.

changing it is not a ten minute job..but its not hard by any means..driveway capable for sure...jack stands for the car or ramps, blocks whatever just so long as its up an stays up...and then remove midpipe, drop trans then just pull the clutch fork and pop the old out, put the new in...put trans back up and connect everything..exhaust goes up and your golden...really i think the only tools needed would be a socket/ratchet, wrenches to get the exhaust off, ratchet/socket to remove the bolts holding the trans crossmember, and ratchet/socket to remove the bolts holding the trans to the bell...oh thats brings it up..shouldnt need to remove the bellhouseing to change it so its just the trans..this makes it easier because you dont have to reach the top bolts of the bell, or remove the starter..
