Default Rust proofing my car?!

I live in Minnesota. It gets snowy and cold here--at certain times the Mustang is the only car I can use and I will have to use it during the Winter!

I need some tips on keeping it clean and keeping it from rusting. Also I think there is something I can spray or put on the underside of the car to prevent rust...what is this, and how much will it cost? How about preventing rust on other parts??

Should I wash it in my Garage after I drive it??

Acid dipping and powder coating are your best bet. Both are pretty expensive though.

zeibart will rustproof, or you can call aroud to dealers. most will offer some kind of rustproofing service. you are looking at at least a couple hundred bucks.

A kid I knew used WD40 and/or some metal cleaner and toweled almost all of the underbody and engine bay stuff on his pontiac grand am once every week or 2 to keep rust away he said. Think what he did worked/works or no?

lets put it this way, a customer of mine was an 80 year old lady who drove a 1970 chevelle, it had about 70k on it and she had owned it since it was new. she drove it all year round in the salt and snow here in wi. it was undercoated at the dealer when new, the only rust it had after 35 years was just starting at the bottoms of the doors due to stone chips. im sold.

as far as the wd40 seems like alot of work, if you undercoat it once you dont have to mess around every week.

Honestly I think cars are better designed against rust then they were just a few years ago. That being said, I also live in a snowy area and am planning to drive it year round. With past vehicles I've just put a few good coats of wax on the car and made sure to wash it once every week or two or whenever there was a nice sunny day w/ clean and dry street.

That's what I thought, better in the long run to just get it undercoated. I'll tell the kid if I see him. Thanks.
