hey guys im new to the whole car thing...

can you guys explain to me what these things mean, i've wondered what they mean but i'm not sure.

Torque? i dont understand what it is... i tried googling it but i couldnt find anything

WOT?? no clue here

i think thats all i have for now... just curious what they actually are/mean.

sorry im new to the whole car/engine thing!!

Essentially its that thing that snaps your neck back when you step on the gas pedal.

Well, torque is the force required to get an object to turn around an axis. For us car guys, it is the force required to get our tires to spin, to get a half-ton trailer moving, to launch off the line, to tighten a engine bolt, so forth and so on.

or 1 tire also if your GT's differential sucks like mine.... (atleast when burning out)

aside from the technicalities,

Horsepower is the overall power output an engine is capable of, while torque is a measure of how fast it will get to that point.

However with vehicles, weight among others things must be taken into consideration opposed to just comparing base numbers of hp/tq.

why do they measure it in ft/lb; ex: 500ft/lb of torque

Have you ever used a torque wrench? That's how torque is measured
