2000 GT Traction Control
Afternoon All,
I am new to the forum as I just bought a GT. I am having a couple issues hopefully some of you long time owners can help with.
First off my car is a 2000 Mustang GT 4.6L with 70,700 Miles. My first issue is when I push the Traction Control Switch the Off Light does not come on. With that the Traction Control cannot be turned off. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Second issue, there seems to be a rotational noise coming from the rear that is constant (i.e., does not increase with RPM). Sounds like a wheel bearing or something in the rear, however my mechanic says he cannot find anything. More than one person has told me it was the exhaust, but I can't get behind that theory. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Exhaust? Next time you're driving along turn the key OFF & coast in neutral. Is the sound still there? Maybe with no engine noise you'll be able to pinpoint where the sound is coming from. Drive past a buddy standing on the sidewalk & get him to listen too
I had the same problem with the trac light not going on, which means you can't disable the traction control. I bought mine to ford and they said they had to replace the entire main instrument cluster for $700. I told them to F themselves and bought an SCT tuner from american muscle: http://www.americanmuscle.com/sct-x3...ash-tuner.html.
It was $379, I was able to use it to turn off the traction control for good. It also added some horses which is nice.
Good luck

Thanks guys! Sorry I did not get an email telling me you posted.
As far as the Instrument cluster, you can get them pretty cheap on ebay, but they won't sell them to anyone in PA. Bummer!
I tried the turning off the car while moving and yes I did still hear the noise. Problem is I can't tell if it is coming from the front or the back. Are Wheel Bearings a likely cause of this??
Thanks again!

Another way to tell is to lift that side and spin the tires, if one is giving you alot more resistence, its a good chance that it is the wheel bearing. With the Trac Control, like Veets said, you will need to replace the instrument cluster to fix the problem and probably the switch too just to be sure. Just get the Tuner and turn it off. That is a nice 00 GT too.
Hey thanks for all the info. This thing is acting weird. I have had it for 2 months driving it everyday and the Traction control could not be turned off. Then the other day, miraculously I start it up and the off light is on with no ability to turn it off. Since then it is a guessing game as to whether it will be on or off when I start the car.
Could this be a short or something rather than the Whole cluster?

when you are driving your car try lightly swerving from side to side, does the pitch of the noise change??if it does you should be able to pinpoint it to one of the real wheel bearings, if not it is more likely to be in the rear diff, one other thing to check is the rear tire is their any abnormal wear, cupping or feathering of the tires...you be suprised what kind of noise bad tires will make
