Tachometer kills my CJ Mach 1?????

Tachometer kills my CJ Mach 1?????
I have a 1969 Mach 1 with the 428 Cobra Jet and 4 speed transmission. The tach doesn't work because it's not plugged into the tach on the back of the dash. When I plug it in, my car won't start. Any suggestions out there in Mustang Land?
