Default Fan switch doesn't work on all positions

Ok the switch that controls the fan blower speed on my '02 GT doesn't work in the first 2 positions,, only after going to 3rd or 4th position do I hear the fan kicking in..

Is fixing this as simple as replacing the dash switch? It looks like a PITA to get to the switch in the first place

Greystang, it seems that you have a problem that only a ford tech can diagnose, unless of course you have the tools. Here is what I was able to gather. Your problem is all the way at the bottom, "No operation in lower speeds."

Here is the test:

Oh and yes, it most likely is a PITA to replace the switch... BRB.

Okay, here you go, found it. It is not too bad as long as you know what you are doing. First you need to remove the center finish panel and center instrument panel. Start by removing the center finish panel which is the bezel that houses your shifter.

If you have an AOD you will need to move it to 1st gear, remove the screws and give it a tug, it will come off. Next remove the center instrument panel.

Now remove the control panel:

Here are your switches:

Naturally, only attempt this at your own risk.

Hey thanks BBP! Your links/pics aren't showing up in the posts but I get the idea.

So far I've had the console as apart is it takes to get the deck out,, but at that time the switch was working OK. Now I get to go back & chase that switch I was just wondering if the switch was part of a larger printed circuit board or something equally confusing lol.. as long as it's a simple switch I should be able to tackle it.
