Default 3.73

Hey I might buy some 3.73 gears with 6k miles on them. for about 40 dollars. Is the milage to much? no chips or anything. Is it worth it? ALSO they are off of an explorer.

if explorers use an 8.8 rear end then you can use them. if the gears are in good condition i say get them. 6k miles aint too bad.

i thought explorers had a 31 spine carrier, also mileage isnt a factor in used gears its wear pattern

I would never buy used gears. $100 or so more to get new ones.

gears if installed right and lubed can last for thousands and thousands of miles. they just dont go bad. now if set up wrong then yes. you need to watch for wear thats it

Not always. I sheared 7 teeth off a ring gear years ago, and they were set up and lubed right. So YES, they can fail. Just like ANY moving part.
