Default MSD

Is it worth getting,i was thinking about putting in a msd 6a. i think you need to get the battery relocated in the trunk. I was thinking about getting that and a new msd distributor put in the same time, would i feel a diffrence with this and is it worth it, and what does it really do. Thanks

What it does is provide multiple sparks for 20 degrees of the crankshaft rotation and burns more of the fuel during the power stroke making the engine run more efficiantly. The power has to go up but a lot depends on the mods to your engine as to how much of a gain you will actually feel. When you start making some real power it's worth every penny. It's a nice foundation to further upgrages on your Mustang. I think I'd spend a few extra dollars and move into the 6AL. It gives you a rev limiter. With an MSD ignition make sure your battery and charging system is in good shape. They require good voltage.

If you want to get out cheap on a good ignition look into Summit Racing's House brand. It's a Mallory unit and does a nice job. The MSD 6 series is a good unit and I have had them on all my street cars for the last 20 years or so. It's getting a little dated and I'm starting to use other stuff. My Current build I'm using a mallory 6al. More power, less voltage.

At any rate just don't think that you can change the ignition and go out and feel a big seat of the pants differance. It supports bigger mods. The factory ignition starts dropping off just past 5000 rpm. The MSD will keep up to any RPM you will ever spin a small block Ford.

I dont reccomend it because the water does destroy msd boxes.... or at least it destroyed mine.I mounted mine behind the glove box. it fit perfectly.

I had it mounted to a plate that covered the big hole where the stock air box went through the fender well.

Most mount it where the batt is stock, because I guess they can heat up inside the car...? idk.

As for the dizzy,,, Ive heard about them being defective, and the stocker works fine
