Default fox vs. 95 and up

Hey guys, my buddy got a 2002 gt a while ago and is always bragging of how much faster his is than my 1991 5.0. Is his car really that much faster? He also claims that his car is lighter than the 5.0s and it's pushing 280 hp at the wheels, stock.

If your manual and he's auto, he will be a little faster, if your manual and he's manual he will put a pretty good hurting on you. What do you run, most 5.0 verts are around 15

Well, I've got a 5.0 vert automatic, but I've got a shift kit and a valve body on the way and I'm putting 3.73s in within the next couple of weeks. How will I stand up to him with those mods and the mods (i guess you could call them modifications) listed in my signature?

3.73's are a great choice, but to be honest I would think on your best day you might be a 14.6 or so if you hook up. If he's auto then it will be a good one, but if he's manual, you'd better go out and get a stall as well.

what exactly, when I'm driving, does a stall converter do? Let's say i get a 3200 stall converter. When it's installed and I floor it from a stand still what will it do? How much time will it shave off of my 1/4 mile time?

Obviously you know what stall replaces, so you know a some about what it does, so your on the right track. It works off of foot-braking, stock I know the stall on my GT is around 18-1900. Which means it's how much I can hold my foot on the brake and the gas before it starts to burnout and lurch forwards. A 3200 will mean it will go all the way to 3200 before it does any of the following. Now keep in mind, just becuase you have a 3200 stall doesn't mean you will stall 3200. You really need some more power to get the full benefit of that high of a stall. But it's good to go ahead and get the higher stall now though. For example a 3200 stall on your setup might stall around 23-2400 which will help a bit.

When you have the right amount of power to get the full 3200 out of the stall vs. stock then you will be anywhere from about a 1/2 second to 3/4 second quicker in the 1/4. It helps becuase it gets you in your powerband quicker. Just make sure you have some good tires to do so.

i fully understand how a torque converter works now. I just bought a lentech valve body and a transgo shift kit to start off my mods, next will be gears then the stall.
