Exclamation voltage drop

I just change my alternator and belt last week and the battery is less than a year. When the engine is warm and the headlights are on, the in dash volt meter drops to almost nothing when the radiator fan comes on. I don't have the cash to take ie to a shop and am tired of having to rev the rpm's at every stop light. any help will be greatly appreciated.
