Default Clutch issues *PISSED*

So i went down to my local shop and explained to them that i need my clutch adjusted. They said i need a whole entire new clutch and i almost bugged out.

Detailed problem.
THE PROBLEM

My problem is not so bad. My clutch is simply engading too high (grabbing high). The pedal has to almost lift completely off the floor for the clutch to engadge. The result, i spin tire usually car if i dont give it a bit of gas it will just stall. Theyres no room to feather it. So my problem is i want to adjust the cable so the pedal grabs alot lower. As we stand the clutch does not slip (THANK GOD) well it does but only in donuts when i shift up which you shouldnt do anyways. The only problem i did have was when i geared down hard one day and smelled clutch and stopped instantly. I know its bad but i did it i stopped, all good. But anyways the shops trying to tell me i need a new clutch and i think thats a load of horse ****. Is it possible to adjust my cable tension to lower the pedal back to the floor and where it engadges. Cause im8 pretty sure theyres a way. Plus i saw kits to adjust the tension but im not sure if that helps my situation. I was also told to do the trick where you pull your pedal up except i do that and it just doesnt do anything. Please help : )

Sorry for going into such detail but if i lost some of you heres the short explinatiion. Clutch pedal grabs almost completely off the floor and i want to get it adjusted back to w here t grabs half way and the shops telling me thats not possible.

The adjustment needs to be made looser to engage the disc earlier. A cable can be too tight but if it's too loose the first part of the travel does nothing. The cable may even fall off the hook. If you are at that point. Most likely the shops are correct. It's time for a new disc, pressure plate and resurface or replace flywheel.
