A few things we need to know first:

1. How much money do you want to spend?

2. What are your specific goals for this car? (Look nice, "feel" fast, actually be fast, win races, etc).

The money will be the most important issue, but what you want out of the car will be important as well.

For 9 grand, you should look for a 99-01 Cobra. Try to find one with ~75k miles should fall right into your price range. They are plenty fast for what they are, and gears/exhaust/tune drops them right into the 12s.

You wont have to take it to the shop all the time... Every car has its perks, but my 98 has been pretty good other than a few engine issues. My buddy has a 99 Cobra with a few mods and its got over 165,000 miles on it. Still runnin strong

If you have $9000 to spend on a car, find one for $7-8K, and have $1-2K left to fix stuff that you might find wrong/broken in the first few months. Nothing worse than blowing all your money only to have something break and not be able to use the car b/c you're now broke.
