Cheapest go fast?

Cheapest go fast?
Got a few questions for you guys. As some of you know, I wrecked my beloved SN95, and I'm nearing completing of my recovery from debt, and I need to find a mustang that can go fast for low dollars:
I'm not low on cash. I make too much money for me to say that, by about july I'll be completely debt free and have about 4000$ in hand. I just don't want to blow my finances on an expensive car until i can afford it, and this not having a car crap sucks. I want something I can play with until the time comes that I can afford a SN95 cobra or a corvette, which I imagine it would only take me a year to save for with the money I'm making now...
So my question is this:
What is the cheapest model to make power from? I like every body style all the way back to the mustang II's, so as long as it's a relatively new (post 4 eyed fox, if I can), I'd be content. I'm not asking for a definitive answer, more of a discussion... I know the SN95's are crap for power until you throw FI into the mix, and when you do that almost oany of the mustangs are fast...
Foxes are cheap if you're buying a hatch, as far as I've seen, and the first generation SN95's are fairly cheap too, but I don't like the non-pi, as they're even worse for power than the new edge SN95's. Anywho, I need help figuring this idea out... thoughts?

Yeah, I'm finding that fox is the cheapest, and has the most robust aftermarket. Only reason I'm asking now is so I can do more research on the platform before investing... I seriously want to do a cobra when I get the cash for it, but for now I need something that reminds me of who I was before the crash.
