Transmission trouble in a 1997 5-speed (t-5)

My transmisson in my 97 GT will go over to reverse but will not pull down into reverse. Now I have no reverse and wondering if I need a trans rebuild or could it be a shifter problem? Thanks

try putting it in fifth before attempting to put it in reverse.

btw...you have a t45 not a t5.

Will it easily go in reverse with the engine off?

How far up is the pedal when your clutch starts to engage?

Clutch engages about 2-3 inches off the floor. Won't go in to reverse with the engine off either.

I ordered a new shifter to start. Will want one anyway if I have to rebuild the trans.
