Default Why do superchargers cost so much?

n00b here and i'm just wondering why supercharger kits cost soooo much. i plan on buying a GT for $8k and eventually want to charge it. But a charger kit costs half of what i want to pay for the car! Why are they so exspensive?

SC's make your small block run like a BIG Block! ...trust me, SC the only way to go! ...your '93 Does NOT have forged pistions, so I would not run much more then 10-12 #'s of boost!

...go with a Vortech S-trim

Blowers are high precision products and include more than just the blower itself. The intake manifild, mounting brackets, intercooler etc all add up $

Personally I'm freakin glad blowers aren't "cheap"! If they were cheaper, there would be a LOT more dead kids wrapped up in destroyed car coffins all over the highways/cities.

I completely agree with GreyStang, but even the head units themselves are expensive as hell. You have to keep in mind the R&D that goes into these units to make sure they can perform @ 50K rpm and not grenade into your motor. So you are really paying for the R&D, the warranty, the brand name, and the parts needed to produce it.

*Plus if they offered a supercharger kit on EBAY for $250, would you really want to try it out?*

You get what you pay for!

(BTW- I had a Vortech V-1 T-Trim Race blower on mine with some high flowing heads, stock block, forged internals, and a few other upgrades and that **** did 10.80 in the 1/4 making 10 psi. These units are pricey for a reason...THEY WORK!)

Yes, they are extremely high precision devices, but they are still overpriced a bit . . They are precise, but still very simple.

Of course they are great things to have, but like others have said if they were cheap then everyone would buy them... IF I was supercharged I would to be SC so I could have something unique... So I could outrun the other cars in my class with ease... I wouldn't want everyone else having them. It doesn't cost 4K-5K, or even close (I would assume) for the manufacturers to produce them, that's just the going rate that people are willing to pay.
