Please Help...
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right area so if not, please let me know where...
I just got home after having to leave my 05 mustang on the street outside the bar I was at. I valet'd it and it was parked right outside the bar. When it was time to leave, I got the keys back but my remote receiver would not unlock the doors.
When I open it w/the key, the alarm naturally goes off but the ignition is dead and the alarm only goes off once I shut/lock the doors. I bought the car brand new in April of 05, had the Viper Remote Start alarm installed a few months later. I've had it close to 4 years and have NEVER had a problem w/the alarm.
Not sure what do to -- the battery in the remote is not dead b/c when yo hit the buttons on it, it lights up just fine indicating that it's trying to transmit the sigal, but it's not getting picked up by the alarm system.
None of the buttons work, lock, unlock, remote start, nothing.
Please let me know if you know what the problem might be or if there's somewhere else I should post thing.
Thanks very much!
Mike

Yeah, I definitely am going to do that...I just was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem and/or how to fix it b/c I don't want to pay for a tow unless I have to. I guess I can ultimately disable the alarm but not sure if there's an easier solution.
Thanks,
Mike
Thanks,
Mike
That's why I never like to have an alarm system custom installed. I do it myself so I know EXACTLY where the disable circuit is placed and how to override it if necessary.
If you're gonna have an alarm system custom installed then be SURE to insist the installers show YOU exactly how to bypass the system in the event of a problem.
In your case mmaggini I can't help you.. don't know which alarm you have and/or how it was installed. You may need to tow it, and if so make a BIG STINK about it at the installers, try to get them to pay for the tow.

Check the connections to see if one didn't come loose. My brother had a prob with his viper system on his neon and he found where the wires were. For his, they were on the left side of the dash, down by the fuse panel. He grabbed them and squeezed, putting pressure on the connections and it worked. After that, he just had to narrow down which one had the faulty connection. See if you can't do the same. Also, do you have a kill switch on it? Generally, the installer will put a button somewhere, always hidden, where when you press it it kills the alarm. But I would def call your installer and complain.
Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies/help...so it turns out that it wasn't a problem w/the car, it was the viper remote...I kind of know the guy at the shop that installed it b/c I've had a lot of add-ons and they've done them all. He came out and took a look at it for me and I brought along my extra remote for ****s n giggles and as soon as we pulled up, the other remote worked. So something is f'd up w/the other remote...and now that I think about it, I had a smaller problem a few weeks back...I have an "auto top down" feature and that wasn't working a few weeks ago so something must have shorted out w/in the remote.
Sure glad it was that simple, definitely thought it was the car.
Anyway, thanks again and have a good week.
