Lightbulb Cold Air Kits

Everytime i have read and heard on buying cold air kits for the 2005 and up GT mustangs they are telling me to buy the computer programmer with it which is another 400 or so. So i was wondering if i just purchased the Steeda cold air or JLT cold air if i just bought the cold air kit with out the computer recalibration if it would still be okay to purchase??? Any thoughts on my question and what i should do on the buy??

The problem lies in that if you change the inner diameter of the maf housing, you will have to re-tune the car. some CAI have a sleeve that keeps it the same size, I think JLT and Steeda both have that option. You can run it that way, but in all reality it wont do much for you except for the sound.

+1, I am not sure that JLT offers the sleeve you speak of though. I just re-checked their site and they only really have 3 options. One is the CAI by itself, the other two are combo packs with different tuners. You really do need the tuner to make this car respond to the upgrades. Oh and I would go with JLT. I have it on mine and really noticed a nice difference on my new edge and a tune isn't required for mine. Americanmuscle offers the combo for like $529. Here is the link. http://www.americanmuscle.com/05-07-...r-intakes.html

If you increase the diameter of the MAF housing, the engine will lean out which is bad. On S197 Mustangs, the tune is much more important than the intake. Even if you had a K&N intake which has the same MAF size and thus doesn't require a tune; you wouldn't notice that big of a difference unless you got a tune. With just an intake, you'll pick up 5-7whp; with an intake and tune you'll pickup upwards of ~25whp.

Being that you have an 2005, check to see if you have the pre-cat particulate filter just behind your MAF sensor, removing that alone is worth 4-5hp alone.
