coming from chevy land... a.k.a mulletville and the world of actually fast cars, you will be quite disapointed. A modular can be made to go fast, but not nearly as cheaply, easily and reliably as bowtie counterparts. However, the car isn't a piece rubbermaid trash, so that kind of makes up for it. IMO if you want to make 700 or less hp and dont mind boost, stick with modular. If you want to make more than that, or want to do it on pump gas and without boost and have chevy longevity... well then you need to drop in a chevy. Companies like AJE make this pretty straight forward and cheap.
