Best thing to do is have it recharged. If its a newer model then it uses R134A and you can buy that in any local parts store. If you charge it and the compressor doesnt kick on then it needs a new compressor most likely. Go the cheap route first and try recharging it.
The pressure switch can go bad in these systems.If adding freon doesn't help,you can use a jumper wire to force the compressor to operate.I don't know which connection to jump however,sorry.
