Error message on my car Need Help
Today has been the worst day of my life, here is my story(2005 v6 mustang)...After about 6 months of saving I purchased a Thortlle body http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-70...ttle-body.html and a cold air in take http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-2005-v6-cai.html . The reason I purchased these because they said they did not need to be tuned by a pc. I installed them yesterday and I followed the instructions to the word. The only thing I realized that when you shut it off it kinda of shaked. Anyway with all the snow on the ground I wanted to wash my car. So I went to sheetz on wards road filled up and went and got my car washed. After I got my car washed I drove to the light right infront of sheetz and the words Enginie fail safe shut off came on. I idled to the Badcocks furniture store, I over looked everything on the car I noticed that the air filter on the Cold air intaked was wet. So i called my wife and took off the thortlle body and the cold air intake and put the old ones in. After about an hours worth of work it still would not completely turn over it kept saying Enginge fail safe . So I had to have my car towed to my house, so now Im down a car completely. i called ford and its going to cost me an arm and a leg to get the car looked at let alone fixed. Oh also i did dissconnect the battery when i installed and deinstalled the CAI and throttle body.
The engine was running either too lean, or too rich. With the changes you made, probably too lean. The computer detected the overly lean condition, and went in to limp mode. It went on long enough that the computer shut the engine down. You'll need a reflash from the dealer to fix it.
The cause? Your new parts.
Here's the deal. It's really basic Automotive 101. To make power, the engine ingests air and fuel in a specific ratio. The proper ratio is crucial. Change one of the parameters - in this case air - and the ratio changes. You added more air, but not more fuel. Now it's lean. This is a bad thing, and can quickly kill the engine.
If you buy any power parts that do not require a tuning change, that means you bought parts that don't change anything from stock. You wasted your time and money.

Thanks I will look into that, its wierd that a company would say they dont need to be computer tuned and I 100% felt a diference in horse power and the way it worked but then I actually do isnt that false advertisment?
Bob is correct, but BBK does not need a tune, I think you started to hydrolock your engine and it caught it. You said your filter was wet, well if it was wet that means water may have made its way past the filter element and into the intake manifold, at which point it would notice the water and start the fail sequence. That is why with a true CAI you should not drive in rain or at the very least thru a puddle. You will need it to be done at a ford dealer to make sure no damage was done.
^ that is all bullSh*t... Where the hell are you mounting your filter? Are you driving through a RIVER. You had to done something stupid, sorry, but thats just a fact, and there is no way that your intake made the car go lean, what most likely happened that you didnt install the intake properly and the maf/tube became disconnected and may have fallen down into a puddle - you probably just sprayed some water on it in the car wash, and that should do/have done nothing to it, the maf falling off or being connected in a way that it is not fuly sealed, will make it act like that. just reconnect everything, make sure the filter is dry and disconnect the battery for a few hours - it should reset and be fine.
Damn fobra. I am only going off of what he said, yes he said his filter was wet, but he never said it had separated or fallen from the maf. So, with a condition where he just came thru an automatic car wash where his engine is still running in a very wet environment, there is a chance that some water did do that. Is it just coincidence that he comes out of a wash and his car starts acting up? But yes, I would re-check all your connections just to make sure nothing came undone or that you didn't do something incorrectly.

That is bs, what makes BBK any different from the other ones other than the name? There are plenty of CAI out there that do not need any other mods to make some improvements (hp,tq) which does make changes from stock, true it's not alot but 15-20 hp is significant and with tuning, depending on which one you use, another 20-30 hp and is not a waste of money I don't understand why he thinks that.
Ive got alot of emails and I thank you for all of your suggestions and ideas here is everything ive done and Ive attached a video of my engine, the error message and the muffler.
1_ I removed the bbk CAI and put the stock one back>
2_I cleaned the throttle body I purchased
3_I cleaned the Air Mass Senors and dried it
4_ I also had the battery removed since 11am to 3pm
5_I put all the parts back and made sure everything was tight
6_But I still have the error message
