I don't know much about this stuff but my car died a couple of times just like yours. No warning just gone. I put the SCT on it and got a TPS code. I erased it to see what would happen. Stupid of me ,any way it happened again after installing a new one. I took it in and they tracked it back to an oxygen sensor in the exhaust. Like I said I'm not to up on this stuff but I thought I would throw that out there.

 

Mine seems to be running again now. The two things I replaced are the most common things that you see in the forums. It has a new TFI (ignition module) about 51 bucks at Autozone and a new PIP (magnetic pickup or Hall effect sensor) inside the distributor.

Thanks a million for all the help to everyone on this thread. Not sure what I would have done without it - most likely paid hundreds of dollars to a shop.

My next big challenge is that I went to time the car and evidently the previous owner has removed the SPOUT. Now I need to decide what to do about that.

I posted a new thread on that one titled "SPOUT removed? Can't find timing mark" if anyone has some thoughts on that problem.

If anyone has similar problems and needs to ask questions about this thread - please do.
