Default Pre Mix coolent vs. self mix

Whats up party people - Just want to know the diff between the PeakStone Pre-Mixed coolent, and the coolent that you mix yourself with distilled water??? I know the already mixed one is easier for us laymen who dont want to have to measure out to make sure you have the right mix levels but....do they hurt at all?? Does it work as well??

Thanks,
Matthew

The difference is when you buy the mixed stuff you're paying for half water, and when you buy the straight stuff and mix it yourself you're getting a lot more coolant for your money.

Around here the prices are almost equal when you factor in how much you get, the 50/50 is just above half of pure stuff.

It really just depends on what you want to do. .if for some reason you wanted a stronger/weaker mix, it makes sense to d.i.y.

I buy straight coolant and mix with distilled also but prefer a 50/50 mix. Distilled is just under a buck for 4L so consider that cost too.

When doing a flush. After you drain your radiator. Alot of water is left in the system. Sometimes it's hard to get enough coolant in your system for a 50/50 mix.

I flush then try to refill with distilled to displace the flush water. Drain best I can and pour in half of your systems capacity. If you have a 16L system. Make sure you get at least 8L of coolant in there and if you need to top of off. Go with distilled.

Some shops charge $75+ to do a flush. I bought the straight coolant just the other day and you do get more bang for the buck. But think about it like this:
How often do you add coolant? Probably very rarely so it's probably going to be a lot easier just buying the 50/50 and putting it in then to go through the measuring process to make sure you have the right percentages that you want, which in most cases is 50/50 anyways.

The quality of a flush job really depends on how much time you want to spend flushing.

At a minimum, drain, refill with water, drain and fill with coolant.

If you have time. Undo a few hoses. Heater, radiator, remove the thermostat. Blast every hole with water until it's flushing super clear. Especially the heater connections and blast in both directions.
Replace the thermostat and any soft hoses. Refill as described in reply #7. Drive it and after a few hot / cold cycles, recheck the level in the reservoir.
